I started Tie by hand as way to fulfill my love for making and as a way to give back to the amazing LGBTQ community in Columbus, Ohio.
We are dedicated to serving and assisting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning youth. We donate 10% of proceeds to a local organization that provides health care or other services for the LGBTQ community in Columbus, Ohio. We accept mentees each year, working to provide a safe environment to teach youth tangible and life-long skills. We enrich their lives by offering an empowerment program to promote self-expression, self-acceptance, leadership development and healthy choices.
We have a wood shop located in Worthington, Ohio and for 2017 will have a store near downtown Columbus, Ohio. From the storefront we sell our goods and develop our mentor program throughout the central Ohio community.
I received my BFA from Columbus College of Art and Design and my MFA with a sculpture concentration from The University of Pennsylvania’s PennDesign. I spent several years managing art studios at various universities. Prior to my work in academia I was the Properties Coordinator for The Opera Company of Philadelphia where I employed my art education to bring designs to the stage. Throughout my adult life I have strived, in every work situation, to act as a mentor. The Tie by hand Youth Mentoring Program will guarantee that the participants have someone supportive in their lives that care about them.
I truly hope you will love your home goods as much as I enjoy making them.
